Governor Murphy Signs Proclamation Declaring Today, Sept. 20th, Addiction Professionals Day

Addiction Professionals Day, part of National Recovery Month, was established in 1992 by NAADAC, the Association for Addiction Professionals, to show appreciation for the important work of addiction professionals who provide clinical counseling and support to those affected by substance use. On Monday, September 18, 2023, Governor Phil Murphy signed a proclamation officially declaring September 20, 2023, as Addiction Professionals Day in New Jersey.

Governor Murphy highlighted in his proclamation that there are more than 5,500 active addiction professionals working tirelessly to improve lives and make New Jersey's communities safer and substance-free; and that since the COVID-19 pandemic, addiction professionals have expanded access to telehealth services and ensured ongoing access to medication for alcohol and opioid use disorders.

"On Addiction Professionals Day, we recognize the tireless dedication and unwavering compassion of those at the forefront of battling addiction. Their work is not just a job, but a commitment to transforming lives in New Jersey and beyond," said Debra L. Wentz, President and CEO, NJAMHAA.
