On Thursday, December 21, 2023, the New Jersey Senate passed A5283, legislation that requires calculation of the national average time needed to approve applications for initial credentials in professions or occupations, and the use of that average time as the standard in New Jersey.
The legislation passed the New Jersey Senate with 35 voting in favor and 0 opposed, and passed the New Jersey Assembly on December 7, 2023, with 72 voting in favor and 0 opposed. The legislation now goes to Governor Phil Murphy's desk to be signed into law.
As shared by the New Jersey Business and Industry Association, the legislation also calls for the reinvestment of the State's licensure fee revenue into the Division of Consumer Affairs to process and approve applications more efficiently.
NJAMHAA has been a strong advocate for this legislation since its introduction in March of this year, and even before then, through meetings with the Division of Consumer Affairs aimed at reducing the regulatory burden on healthcare providers.
